MATILDA ‘N ME
There’s a farmer who raises blue ribbon beef
whose barnyard is just down the road.
It used to be crammed with black angus steers,
but he recently shipped out load.
Well, I took me a walk and I had me a talk
with the stock that remained yesterday.
The barnyard was bare. Just two Herefords were there;
and I swear I heard one of them say:
"That Black Angus crowd was plumb snooty and proud.
They looked down on Matilda 'n me.
They leered and they jeered and so caustically sneered-
‘cuz we wuz just Herefords, y’ see.
Now them snobs ain’t around. They just ain’t t’ be found;
and the barn yard seems empty and bleak.
Just Matilda ‘n me are still here y’ see,
‘cuz them Angus got shipped out last week.
Them Black Angus dudes wuz so ornery and rude.
I swear it wuz all we could take.
But the last laugh was ours; not them black superstars!
We’re still here while they’re somebody’s steak!
We wuz yesterday’s breed, the Black Angus agreed;
and we didn’t pooh pooh their belief.
Even Ronald at Big Mac’s McDonald, no less,
was wantin’ just Black Angus beef.
Now Hardees and Harveys and fine uptown grills
serve their customers certified meat;
and Matilda ‘n me think that’s just fine. You see
it’s them Black Angus dudes that they eat.
When we woke up at dawn, we wuz here! They wuz gone!
We wuz happy as Herefords can get!
We wuz filled with such cheer becuz we wuz still here..
and it ain’t us that’s gonna get "ett"!!!"
